Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
Hauled home somemore of the Steve White buses this weekend. I'm helping Steve sell these. They've been stored down in SE MO for years. Delt with a black 67 Deluxe a few months ago. These 3 were a 67 Kombi, 70 Deluxe and a 80 Vanagon. They're all full of parts from their respective generations. Buses aren't in great condition though. The trips out to get em was rough. It's about 250 miles one way. We hauled 2 at a time back on the first trip, pulling doubles with a trailer and a dolly. Slow going averaged about 45mph, it took 6-7 hours. The 70 wouldn't roll at all, even after dragging it across a field with a tractor. Had to pull the auto trans out of the Vanagon so that it could dolly back. Needless to say it was a long weekend. 2 days, 1000 miles 3 buses, on 4hrs of sleep Fri and Sat night. Attachment:

Too bad some kids shot the windows out of the Split and the Vanagon. They did it recently too. The guy who's property they were on said they were fine last Wednesday when he saw them. They'd been stored there for 10 years or so, and get shot up right before they get hauled out. Attachment:

Trailer and dolly at the same time.... That's hardcore man. I was wondering if that was legal a while back. Backing up with a dolly alone is hard. Too many pivot points. It would be kind of funny to watch a trailer and a dolly lol

Yeah, I guess it's legal. We didn't get pulled over at all and passed a few cops. Once you add the bus on the dolly that creates a 3rd pivot point. There wasn't much backing up at all. We had one really sharp turn getting out of the place on a dirt road. We had to disconnect and take them one at a time thru it. It was difficult to reconnect when you have buses on both the dolly and the trailer.
Speaking of cops we did have one incident right after we got out of there with the last bus. After getting out of the long dirt road, we stopped at an old fire station to check oil and prep for the trip back. The Sherriff pulls in and comes out with his hand on his gun. Questioning who we were and what we were doing. Wanted to see our IDs and if we were down there yesterday. The guy on the neighboring property claims his grandson saw us taking stuff from his property. I figured out where the confusion was, on the way in the first day we saw a junk pile/old dump on the side of the road. We stopped to take a piss and looked around. Didn't take anything major, just an old license plate and an old metal box. We told him with two buses on we didn't have room for more junk. They finally let us go after about an hour or more.

Yeah it's all drivers side on the 67 too, plus both the windshields. All that is left is the passenger pop outs and the rear glass. As you can tell this bus is pretty rough, having the glass is about all it had going for it. Still has the big nut tranny, gas tank, front beam, rusty apron, and a few other things.

Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
The nose is hammered. Wrecked on the passenger side and rusty on the bottom. I haven't decided on the tranny. I may use it in my Single Cab and sell this alpine geared trans I got from Chad that came out of the Kong Bus.

Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
yeah, pix angles can be deceiving, eh ?
for True, you Do want to use the Kong Bus Tranny in something with lowLOW geared services; chad could sometimes go faster upHill than downHill with that set-up. & @ 55mph was wound up like a chinese pocketWatch ( i.e., about a mm away from going "ssssSPRIONG" ).
yikes...db - - -

Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
shawn - 0 Totally; i think the @-hole Punks should be shot at with the same weapon(s) they use on the bus. Be it pellet gun, pistol, revolver, shotgun, assault rifle, mortar round, anti- tank weapon, artillery cannon, etc. ,,, whatever.
Rocks, bricks, ballBats, tire-iron, sparkPlug-on-a-string, etc. i.e., the punishment should fit the crime.
an' if ya don' wanna do the time, don' do the crime, innit ?
rant...db - - -

Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
So I've been working on the '65 this week. Today I finished up putting the shifter whatnots and who have's back together(new front coupler, front bushing, rear coupler) So it wil go into 1,2,3 & R just fine and it feels like it is going into 4th but when you let out on the clutch it kicks it out a bit and makes a nasty freaking noise. So farted around trying to adjust the little shift guide plate and all. And stil same deal?? Guess this mutha ain't got no 4th gear DANG Anybody got a cheap tranny or wanna buyt a bus?????

Re: What have you done for your VW recently?
Daniel - Ouch, that sux. Maybe that's why it was parked somewhere for years (?), so it didn't get crashed, hammered, and rotted.
Maybe just use this one for your daily driver, - we don' need no stinkin' 4th gear 'round town, eh K ?
i bet Bill Shanks could fix 'er, tho...db - - -
